So on to yet another huge soccer tournament, this time the Euro Cup. It’s run by UEFA, Europe’s soccer association.
The 2012 Cup will be held in from June 8th to July 1st, 2012, in Poland and Ukraine.
In this cup, 16 nations will compete.
They are divided into 4 groups of 4 teams, who play round-robin. The top two teams proceed to the quarter-finals, which are then played in a knock-out fashion. So if a team loses, they’re out. The winners then move on to the semi-finals, and the winners of that move on to the finals. The winner of that becomes the European Champion.
The 2012 cup will be the last one that has 16 teams to start. Beginning with the 2016 cup, there will be 24 teams.
The qualifying matches for the Euro begin this fall, after the world cup has ended.
As with the Copa América, I’m not sure if this is televised here on regular channels. You definitely have time to find a way to watch this, of course, and I’ll be posting links once it starts.
I’ll also update with which teams qualify as they go.
